The following are the high-level steps required to build, compile, and deploy a custom portlet in GroundWork Monitor 6.0:

Install the GroundWork Developer's Kit - Refer to GroundWork Developer's Kit (GDK), GroundWork Developer's Kit Installation
Use the GDK Development Environment to develop your custom project - Refer to GroundWork Developer's Kit (GDK) Development Environment
Locate your custom project correctly within the GDK file structure

Deploy your custom project - Refer to Deploying a Custom Portlet
