Change Control in Root Cause Analysis

It’s hard to believe August—and summer—is coming to an end. It’s time to start gearing up for fall, which tends to be a busier time of year for most of us. With that in mind, maybe it’s time to take advantage of GroundWork’s training opportunities to enhance your skill set and get the most out of GroundWork Monitor. This month, we also have a write up about our recent webinar on root cause analysis.

Did you know we offer training programs to help you get the most out of GroundWork Monitor? Our training programs are designed to give operators and sys admins hands-on experience in GroundWork Monitor’s advanced features. We also offer GWSCA certification.

Operator Training
Our Operator Training is a self-paced online video course that only takes a half day. Operators will learn GroundWork Monitor and know how to view the state of your infrastructure, track realtime changes, troubleshoot issues, and obtain status overviews of monitoring data. Cost: $1,000 for up to 12 people.

Sys Admin Training
Our Sys Admin Training is a 6-day (8 AM – 2 PM PT) online instructor-led course. Sys admins will gain hands-on experience with GroundWork Monitor architecture and monitoring, preparation, installation, discovery, and configuration. You will learn how to employ monitoring methods, add plugins, backup, restore and downtime procedures, and visualize and manage monitoring data. Cost: $2,500 per person. Here is our Sys Admin training schedule for the rest of 2016:

GWSCA Certification
Our GroundWork Monitor GWSCA Certification allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of GroundWork Monitor. The exam is online and self-paced. Cost: $500 (or no charge with the purchase of Sys Admin Training).

Root Cause Analysis

GroundWork hosted it’s first in a planned series of round table webinars. Our topic was Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and You, and we welcomed panelists Udy Gold and Jatinder Singh. Udy Gold is executive director of technology at the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy. Jatinder Singh is the director of platform engineering at HotelTonight. Thomas Stocking, Systems Engineer at GroundWork, moderated.

We talked about how root cause analysis can be an elusive and standalone process, usually done when and where a problem was identified. Because there is so much data and so many variables at play, it can be a real challenge to identify root cause. Our panelists each talked about their experiences in trying to identify root cause and methods they’ve employed to effectively filter through all the noise.

The conversation migrated to change control and how 85% of all failures across the industry occur subsequent to a change within the affected infrastructure. We discussed how change control is essential to healthy operations and our panelists each shared change control processes within their current and past organizations.
